a seat at our table

When Shadrach’s Fiery Furnace made its debut in March of 2011 we were a family of pizza lovers with a dream to turn our passion into a business.  Twelve years, five ovens, and countless dropped pizza doughs later we find ourselves a family of pizza lovers with a thriving, creative, and gratifying business.

Being a one-of-a-kind and nomadic pizza pie operation has allowed us to travel all over the Southeast United States and bring joy to fellow pizza lovers.  We love working together to bring handcrafted, artisan pizzas from our oven to your table.  Our spot-on neapolitan style pies are made with the best, most fresh ingredients we can find; we firmly believe that pizza should be carefully crafted, quickly delivered, and above all made with love.  Our tried and true mobile kitchen allows us to create delicious pizzas from our thoughtfully curated menus at a high volume... and we mean high.  Shadrach's Fiery Furnace is the perfect vendor for your event.

Shadrach & the Fiery Furnace

Who is ‘Shadrach’ and what is going on in that ‘fiery furnace?’

The name “Shadrach” refers to a character from a Biblical story in which three boys are condemned to be put into a Fiery Furnace. When this happens however, four figures are seen in the furnace and the boys come out unscathed…. We were given the name, in the very early stages of our development, while testing our first mobile set-up in the parking lot of our old church (shoutout to Firth United Methodist Church of Mt. Dora). The name was thrown out during some casual discussion and it just sort of stuck. It has been with us for 10+ years now! In all honesty though, if we had to pick a different symbol for our company ethos, we’d go with Sisyphus, or our version Slicyphus.

So who is Slicyphus anyways?

Slicyphus is a play on words referencing the classical Greek story of Sicyphus. In this ancient story King Sicyphus evades death and is instead punished by Zeus to roll a boulder up a hill for eternity, only to have it roll back down after every day-end’s sunset,

Philosopher Albert Camus suggests that Sicyphus can be interpreted as a metaphor for the ideal mentality; finding happiness in the grit despite whatever your circumstances. Camus goes on to theorize that the basic truth of human existence is routed in the constant THAT IS human suffering. We all have a boulder and we all have a hill—no matter if it is pizza or stocks or handwoven micro-baskets for bearded dragons. The sun is up. The boulder is down. All that is left to do is smile, take on the day and of course, just keep rolling…(the dough)

Shadrach’s Fiery Furnace was founded by Gary Carney in 2011 as a mobile operation that toured across the country to many prestigious art shows, music festivals and private events throughout the last decade. Since then a lot has changed for the company. The Carney children took a liking to the family business and worked hard at establishing the first brick and mortar conveniently located in their hometown of Mount Dora, Florida. Gary is now enjoying his retirement while Jack (27) Sarah (30) and Nate (23) take over the family business and sacred name sake that is Shadrach’s.
